Team - Het, Sammy & Sohee
We were tasked with creating an object with some LEDs that turn on and off using a homemade switch. It can be anything: sculptural, architectural, toy-like, strange, functional, useless.
We put on our thinking caps ๐งข and started with a brainstorming session.
The fundamental function of a switch is to make or break the circuit. When the switch is ON, the circuit is completed/closed, and the LED turns ON. When the switch is OFF, the circuit breaks and hence the LED remains OFF.
During our brainstorming session, we came up with 3 different ideas
The Lighting Dart ๐ฏ Darts is a fun game to play but what if we add lights to it? When the dart hits the target, the switch is ON and the LED inside the dart starts glowing. We also thought of changing the standard red dot target to let's say multiple apples to make it more fun.
The Green Light ๐ In a certain Korean game/TV show, a green signal signifies a connection between two individuals. What better way to represent a connection than through eye contact? When the two dolls make eye contact, the switch is ON and the heart glows.
The Glowing Shoes ๐ We all had glowing shoes, right? As soon as the shoe hits the ground, the switch turns ON and the LED glows. We also thought of doing different glow patterns for LED for different states example - walking, jogging, running, jumping etc.
While each concept had its own set of advantages and limitations, we ultimately selected #2 - The Green Light ๐ as it was the most feasible, in-scope and fun to do.
Initially, the two dolls face forward, representing the OFF mode. Next, we rotate the dolls to have them face each other, establishing eye contact. As soon as this happens, the switch activates and the heart (LED) will glow
Switch ๐น - In this instance, the switch is housed within the box and It is nothing but two wooden sticks covered with aluminium foil. The switch is ON if they make contact and OFF if the contact is broken.
